Kalymnos & Telendos Islands – Rough Water Training
April 16 – 23, 2017
The winter Aegean Sea offers us the perfect conditions for an intensive week of advanced training in challenging and variable weather conditions: Sun or rain, gentle breezes or strong winds, 2 meter swells or a flat clear sea, we will be paddling.
On the magical, small island of Telendos, typically deserted during the winter months, a hotel will open its gates especially for us. Each morning after breakfast, we will be out training, adapting our plans to the variable conditions. Lunch will either be on a beach or in one of the taverns open in winter for the local residents. Later in the afternoon we will return to the hotel and, after a hot shower, will gather for cocktails and an indulgent, family-style dinner.
Training will include:
• Use of the correct steering and surfing techniques to control the kayak in strong winds and waves
• Rolling and rescues, including real life simulations in high seas and near rocks and cliffs, and the correct use of long and short tow ropes
• Route planning and navigation based on variable weather forecasts
• Group Management
